It’s my own fault I didn’t like this book。 I thought Danielle Steel wrote domestic suspense, and this was absolutely not that。 It was a quick read, but the suspense never came。 😂

I have been a fan of Danielle Steel novels for more than 30 years - since I was old enough/allowed to read her work, and Finding Ashley is like two of her best storylines neatly woven together。 Another timeless tale, Finding Ashely tells the story of two sisters, their past and present together with a ripped from the headlines tragedy。 Melissa and Hattie are relatable and likeable, and the cast of supporting characters are just detailed enough for the reader to get to know them but not bogged do I have been a fan of Danielle Steel novels for more than 30 years - since I was old enough/allowed to read her work, and Finding Ashley is like two of her best storylines neatly woven together。 Another timeless tale, Finding Ashely tells the story of two sisters, their past and present together with a ripped from the headlines tragedy。 Melissa and Hattie are relatable and likeable, and the cast of supporting characters are just detailed enough for the reader to get to know them but not bogged down in minutia。 I miss Paris and would have liked a little more exotic setting than Ireland but it almost is a minor character itself。 I flew through my copy and very much appreciate #NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read #FindingAshley by #Danielle Steel 。。。more

Finding Ashley by Danielle Steel is vintage feel-good stuff。 It has so much trauma filling it from every direction and yet is has a happy ending。 Melissa Henderson had lived in the Berkshires for four years, rehabbing a gorgeous old house, much of it herself。 She was working on doors now。 She led a solitary existence, exactly what she had needed after her little boy died of an inoperable brain tumor and her marriage couldn't take it and so there was a divorce。 She had a sister, Hattie, was a nun Finding Ashley by Danielle Steel is vintage feel-good stuff。 It has so much trauma filling it from every direction and yet is has a happy ending。 Melissa Henderson had lived in the Berkshires for four years, rehabbing a gorgeous old house, much of it herself。 She was working on doors now。 She led a solitary existence, exactly what she had needed after her little boy died of an inoperable brain tumor and her marriage couldn't take it and so there was a divorce。 She had a sister, Hattie, was a nun。 She never saw her and was rarely in touch。 She hated the church for reasons of her own and never could understand why Hattie had thrown over a promising acting career to become a nun。 She had been a writer, a well known one with a promising career, but that all ended when Robbie got sick。 She had no one and that was OK。 The contractor she worked with was Norm, a man about her age who gave her her space but had taught her so much。 Then there was a forest fire。 As she wetted down her house, Norm arrived to see how he could help。 When he refused to leave, she fed him coffee, and they talked。 She told him about her life and how she had ended up here。 Hattie had seen the news of the fire on the television and called to check on her。 Doors were opening。 Ashley was the name of the daughter she's been forced to give up for adoption 33 years ago。 It was at the root of her sorrow, her feelings about her mother, and her hatred of the Catholic Church。 Now Hattie, secretly, wanted to find her for her sister。 Amazingly, she did。 This was a tear-inducing story that had it all: sexual abuse at the highest levels, forced adoption, renouncing of one's religious vows, death in a helicopter crash, love, hate, reconciliation。 It is what Steel does best。 She writes sympathetic characters, and ones not so sympathetic。 She weaves them together with the news of the day, the hot spots that have every one talking, and creates a story so moving that the reader can't put the book down。 This was a wonderful read。 Just what I needed that day。 It's feel-good and faith inducing。 Things can get better。 I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Finding Ashley by Netgalley。 All thoughts and opinions are mine。 #netgalley #findingashley 。。。more

I have been reading Danielle Steel's novels for many years。 Some I have loved and some I have liked。 I initially felt this book was going to be predictable, but I was wrong。 There are so many substories that kept my interest。 The character of Melissa was hard to connect with to begin with。 All of the characters and their stories meld together making a very interesting book。I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley for my voluntary, honest review。 I have been reading Danielle Steel's novels for many years。 Some I have loved and some I have liked。 I initially felt this book was going to be predictable, but I was wrong。 There are so many substories that kept my interest。 The character of Melissa was hard to connect with to begin with。 All of the characters and their stories meld together making a very interesting book。I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley for my voluntary, honest review。 。。。more

I am a long time fan of Danielle Steel and am always astonished at how many books she has read, especially recently! I do love how her tone and subject matter has changed over time, and I welcome both in Finding Ashley。 The usual woman protagonist is the main character, but this time she is more down to earth than the ones in her precious books。 I felt a touch of Jodi Picoult in this book; emotional and controversial topics, family turmoil and drama, and compelling and relatable characters。 Ther I am a long time fan of Danielle Steel and am always astonished at how many books she has read, especially recently! Finding Ashley by Danielle Steel is a wonderful emotional standalone novel。 We meet Melissa Henderson, our heroine in this story, who is content as she renovates her Victorian house, which she bought a few years ago that was in bad shape。 We learn quickly that Melissa’s life fell apart 6 years earlier, when her 10-year-old son, Robbie died of Cancer。 Her and her husband, devoted everything to try and save him, and after he died, their marriage fell apart, and they divorced; Melissa was devastate Finding Ashley by Danielle Steel is a wonderful emotional standalone novel。 We meet Melissa Henderson, our heroine in this story, who is content as she renovates her Victorian house, which she bought a few years ago that was in bad shape。 We learn quickly that Melissa’s life fell apart 6 years earlier, when her 10-year-old son, Robbie died of Cancer。 Her and her husband, devoted everything to try and save him, and after he died, their marriage fell apart, and they divorced; Melissa was devastated, moving to New England, giving up her writing career, and became a loner。Though she does most of the work, she does have workers for difficult tasks (like a roof), with a local contractor, Norm helping her occasion。 When there is a wild fire that threatens the area, Melissa is lucky that it was put out before it reached her home。 Melissa’s estranged sister, Hattie is a nun, and especially since the death of her son, she rarely sees her; but learning about the fire, Hattie comes to visit her, and slowly their reunion will help rekindle their relationship and become closer。 Melissa opens up to Hattie about how she became pregnant at 16, and their mother forced her to travel to a convent in Ireland; to have the baby, and give it up for adoption。 Melissa talks about her grief and how terrible the nuns were to her, another reason why she hated when Hattie became a nunUnbeknownst to Melissa, Hattie decides to get permission from her Mother Superior to travel to Ireland to see what she could find out, since all records were destroyed years ago。 Hattie’s journey will not only bring her to the convent in question, and learn about the conditions at that time, and how the rich paid the convent for adopting the babies。 But when she travels to meet a woman who wrote a book (baby mills) about the deplorable times back then, who happens to be a nun who left her vocation。 Hattie heads back to America, with the name of three women who may have adopted Ashley。 What follows is a wonderful heartwarming journey, when Hattie will find Melissa’s daughter, and it is so emotional, I had tears in my eyes。 We meet Michaela Ashley, who tried to find her real mother years ago to no avail; her adopted mother is a world-famous actress, who supported her search。 Michaela was a fantastic heroine in her own right, as she was so happy and loving toward Melissa, as well as her family (husband, two kids, and adopted mother) who all open their arms to Melissa。 Beside the background story of the convent, making lots of money adopting out the babies, and treating the young girls badly, there was another background storyline。 This was very much like the ‘me-too’ movement, as the Hollywood stars started accusing the men who made their lives difficult。 There was also a tragedy that also brings Melissa and Michaela even closer。Finding Ashley was a fantastic and engrossing story that pulled on many emotions。 I loved seeing Melissa and Hattie reunited and together again after all those years。 Melissa finding happiness again with a family, as well as a possible relationship。 Danielle Steel once again surprises me with a different kind of story that was a masterpiece。 You need to read this book。BarbThe Reading Cafe 。。。more

Danielle Steel has written another jarring soul-stirring book。 Her characters are compelling and draw you into the scenes as they develop。 Melissa Henderson suffered so much misfortune in her life it’s a wonder that she hasn’t broken down。 The grievous tragedy of losing her ten year old son to cancer and then as a result of this casualty it tore her marriage apart。 Sadly that happens in a lot of marriages when a child dies the parents fall apart instead of coming together。 Melissa and her younge Danielle Steel has written another jarring soul-stirring book。 Her characters are compelling and draw you into the scenes as they develop。 Melissa Henderson suffered so much misfortune in her life it’s a wonder that she hasn’t broken down。 The grievous tragedy of losing her ten year old son to cancer and then as a result of this casualty it tore her marriage apart。 Sadly that happens in a lot of marriages when a child dies the parents fall apart instead of coming together。 Melissa and her younger sister who is a nun have been estranged for years, but after Melissa has a eye opening situation due to a fire scare, she decides to open the communication line with her。 There are other secrets from her past that will open up old wounds and shake up others lives。 This is a Unputdownable book!I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions。 。。。more

I hope not。 I was enjoying the story。 It started just with Melanie working on her Victorian house and starts remembering how she got there。 Not necessarily the proper order。。。 Her childhood。 Her sister Hattie。 The divorce。 Her son dying。 (not spoilers)。 Then Hattie decides she need to do something really great for her sister。 I don't want to tell you any more。 The story was pretty predictable。 And I am not one to be able to pick things out so early。 But I managed。 And I also thing that she left one thing out of the story that she should have put into the story, not the conclusion。 🤷‍♀️I gave DS a 3⭐ for the story。 And removed 2 full stars for the writing。 I don't think I have ever done that before。 I am really hoping that there were a lot of changes made by publication date! #randomhouse#ballantine#delacourtpress#bookstagram #booknerds #bookworm #booklover #bookdragon #readalot #ilovereading #inkdrinker #librarymouse #booknerdbookreviews #bookaddict #bookaholic #booklover #booknerd #readingaddiction #readingaddict #readingforpleasure #read 。。。more

I thought the underlying story was interesting, however this book fell flat for me。 It was super repetitive and just kept saying the same thing about the characters in the same and different ways。 It kind of seemed like the author had a set number of pages or words she had to reach。 The characters just fell flat and lacked depth。 Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley,
